Cesc Fabregas was an unused substitute as Spain reached the World Cup Final with a 1-0 win over Germany on Wednesday.

There had been talk the Arsenal captain could make his first start of the competition should Fernando Torres be dropped. But though the Liverpool striker did not make the starting XI, it was Pedro who replaced him.

Spain will take on Netherlands in Sunday's Final, meaning Fabregas could go up against Arsenal team-mate Robin van Persie.

Carles Puyol was the hero for Vicente del Bosque's side, heading home Xavi's corner from 10 yards out.
